Magician #1: Matt Risk
People's fascination with the magical arts goes back to Ancient Egypt and beyond into pre-history. What makes it so appealing to people? What are the traits within a person that make magic work? In this talk, Matthew Risk will show you what it is within your own psychology that makes you easy to fool, and why being fooled is sometimes the best thing that can happen to you.
Matt Risk’s performances have baffled, entranced, and delighted audiences all over Canada. His childhood passion for magic grew into both a fascination with the art of prestidigitation and an interest in the more mystical art of the Wizard. This journey has made Matt Risk into the dark and mysterious figure that he is today, leaving audiences wondering whether he truly is magic, or a master of illusion.
Magician #2: Grant McSorley
You may have seen Davids Blaine or Copperfield on TV, or Penn and Teller in Las Vegas, but magicians are everywhere. In this talk, you will be introduced to the secret world of magic and what it means to keep, learn and search out secrets on the 21st Century. And magic tricks... there will be magic tricks.
When not teaching engineering, for the last 10 years Grant has been organizing events for Montreal magic community, including the 2009 Canadian national magic convention. An amateur for the last 20 years, in June he and Derrick Chung will be debuting their first two man show, the McSorley & Chung Magic Hour, at the Montreal Fringe festival.
