#2 COMMUNITY MAPPING IN TANZANIA
December 5, 2015
Presenter #1: JONATHAN DURAND
Working as a filmmaker in various communities (including Tanzania, among many others), Jonathan will offer reflections on the changes he's seen in the use of media tools for community development over the last decade, as well as a filmmaker's role in authentic representation.
Jon is a Montreal-based filmmaker and photographer currently working on a documentary film about WW2 Polish refugees in Tanzania, based on his family's history. Prior to working in film, he spent two years in South Africa and Mozambique doing development work, using media education as a tool for community empowerment.
Presenter #2: HEATHER DE LAGRAN
Heather de Lagran discusses how participatory action research is being used to mobilize communities in Tanzania to address human rights issues. General Audience members were asked to delve a little deeper into the approach through a hands-on community-asset mapping activity inspired by the basic principle of General Audience-- sharing knowledge, creativity and ideas.
Heather de Lagran is an Education Specialist at Equitas--International Centre for Human Rights Education. Heather specializes in human rights education methodology and design, evaluation and participatory action research. A major part of her work involves implementing a 5-year project in Tanzania focused on building safer and more equitable communities.
